TRAFFIC ALERT - 4TH AVENUE UNDERPASS CONSTRUCTION ALERT
APR-18-08

  • On Thursday, April 24, 2008 and Monday, April 28, 2008 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Congress Street will be reduced to one travel lane between Toole Avenue and 5th Avenue. This restriction is to allow the contractor to complete underground utility work in the intersection of 5th Avenue and Congress Street.
  • Demolition of the north half of the 4th Avenue underpass is complete, however, motorists should watch for haul trucks in the area while excess material is removed from the demolition site.
  • Eastbound Broadway traffic, between 6th and 4th Avenues, will be shifted periodically to accommodate underground utility work, track installation and roadway improvements in the area. This work is expected to be ongoing through June 2008.
The following traffic impacts remain in effect:
  • Utility work on 9th Street/Stevens Avenue between 4th Avenue and 8th Street continues. 9th Street/Stevens Avenue will remain closed through mid-May 2008. Business access will be maintained via 4th Avenue.
  • 4th Avenue Underpass is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • Fourth Avenue businesses can be reached by using 6th Street.
  • Parking is available at the Pennington Street Garage. The entrance to the garage is located on Scott Avenue, just north of Congress Street.

TRAFFIC ALERT - TWO WAY TRAVEL CONVERSION BEGINS STONE AVENUE/SIXTH AVENUE BROADWAY TO 18TH STREET
APR-21-08

Beginning at 6 a.m., on Saturday, April 26, 2008, two-way travel will begin on Stone Avenue and on Sixth Avenue, between Broadway and 18th Street. This permanent two-way travel conversion is part of the Five Points Improvement Project that began in November 2007. The project consisted of resurfacing both Stone Avenue and Sixth Avenue, as well as a portion of residential streets adjacent to Stone and Sixth, new underground drainage at the Five Points intersection, new street lights and new sidewalks.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2008, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., work crews will begin restriping Stone Avenue and Sixth Avenue for the two-way conversion. Despite temporary striping being applied on Stone Avenue and on Sixth Avenue, one-way travel will remain in place until 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2008. At that time both streets will be converted to handle both northbound and southbound travel.

For the safety of the traveling public, Tucson Police officers will be on site to monitor the two-way conversion of traffic.

TRAFFIC ALERT - UTILITY WORK TO RESTRICT TRAVEL ON ALAMEDA STREET DOWNTOWN
MAR-19-08

Underground utility work for the construction of the future Pima County Justice Court/City Court complex on Stone Avenue at Council Street began on Monday, February 11, 2008. This work, being conducted by a Pima County contractor, will restrict travel on Alameda Street between Stone Avenue and 6th Avenue.

The underground utility work on Alameda Street is expected to be complete by Friday, May 2, 2008.
This work will force the complete closure of Alameda between Stone Avenue and 6th Avenue between 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday. The traveling public is encouraged to use Toole Avenue as an alternate route.

Following the work on Alameda Street, the underground utility work will then begin on 6th Avenue from Alameda Street to Pennington Street.

The traveling public can expect delays when driving or bicycling in this work area. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.
