CONSTRUCTION ALERT

This is the first in a series of construction alerts that will be issued throughout the construction of
the 4th Avenue Underpass Improvement Project. These alerts will announce construction, detour
and closure information as it affects traffic. Motorists are asked to obey all posted speed limit signs
within the construction area and be alert for construction crews and personnel working in the area.
The first phase of construction for the 4th Avenue Reconstruction Project has begun. This
transportation improvement project will necessitate multiple closures and restrictions that will
impact pedestrian, vehicle and bicycle travel.
Beginning June 25, 2007 the following traffic impacts will be in effect:
- Congress Street, between North Toole Avenue and 5th Avenue will be closed. This closure is expected to be in place through the end of the year.
- Toole Avenue, between 4th Avenue and Broadway will be closed through the end of the year.
- Westbound Broadway traffic, between Barazza-Aviation Parkway and 5th Avenue, will share travel lanes with eastbound Broadway. At 5th Avenue, westbound
Broadway traffic will be redirected onto Congress Street. This traffic detour is scheduled to be in place through December 2007.
- 4th Avenue Underpass will be closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians will be able to continue using the underpass until July 23, 2007.
- Fourth Avenue businesses can be reached by using 6th Street.
- South Toole will be closed between Broadway and 12th Street for approximately 2 months (weather permitting). Motorists needing access to the area should use either
Euclid/Park to 18th Street or 5th Avenue south to 12th Street.
- Left turn movements, from east or westbound Broadway, onto 5th Avenue, will not be allowed.
- North Toole will remain open and can be accessed from westbound Broadway by traveling north on 5th Avenue to Toole. Eastbound Broadway can reach North Toole
by traveling north on 6th Avenue to Pennington, then east to Toole.
- The sidewalk along the north side of Broadway, between S. Toole and Barazza-Aviation Parkway, will be closed through the end of the year.
- Sidewalk improvements and streetlight installation is underway along 8th Street between 4th and 6th Avenues. These improvements will cause only minor traffic
impacts. Work is expected to be completed by July 20, 2007.
- Parking is available at the Pennington Street Garage. The entrance to the garage is located on Scott, just north of Congress Street.
ACCESS TO BUSINESSES WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA WILL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES
Motorists, bicyclist and pedestrians, please be cautious, obey all posted construction signage, reduced speed limits and remember to share the road.
