CONSTRUCTION ALERT

This is a continuing series of construction alerts that will be issued throughout the construction of the 4th Avenue Underpass Improvement Project. These alerts will announce construction, detour and closure information as it affects traffic. Motorists are asked to obey all posted speed limit signs within the construction area and be alert for construction crews and personnel working in the area.
LANE CLOSURE: Thursday, October 4, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning westbound traffic on Broadway Boulevard near the intersection at 5th Avenue will be reduced to one lane to allow utility work in the intersection. In addition there will be no through traffic allowed on northbound 5th Avenue at Broadway Boulevard.
Trenching for underground utility work near the intersection of 9th Street and 4th Avenue continues through the second week of October. Traffic is shifted to the north side of 9th Street, east of 4th Avenue.
Sidewalk and Curb improvements along North Toole Avenue between Congress and Pennington Streets are ongoing and are expected to continue through October 2007.
Utility work on North Toole Avenue, between Congress and Pennington Streets, will continue through the end of October. Traffic will be switched back and forth to accommodate the work. Access to all businesses will remain open while this work is underway.
Construction of drainage facilities in 9th Street/Stevens Avenue between 4th Avenue and 8th Street is ongoing. 9th Street/Stevens Avenue will remain closed through the end of the year. Business access will be maintained via 4th Avenue.
Stevens Avenue, between 9th Street and 10th Street, east of 4th Avenue, is closed. This is a permanent closure. When the project is completed this area will serve as a pedestrian entrance and walkway for the new Fourth Avenue underpass.
The following traffic impacts will remain in effect:
- Congress Street, between Toole Avenue and 5th Avenue, will be closed. This closure is expected to be in place through the end of the year.
- Westbound Broadway traffic, between Barraza-Aviation Parkway and 5th Avenue, will share travel lanes with eastbound Broadway. At 5th Avenue, westbound Broadway traffic will be redirected onto Congress Street. This traffic detour is scheduled to be in place through December 2007.
- 4th Avenue Underpassis closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
- Fourth Avenue businesses can be reached by using 6th Street.
- Left turn movements, from east or westbound Broadway onto 5th Avenue, will not be allowed.
- North Toole will remain open and can be accessed from westbound Broadway by traveling north on 5th Avenue to Toole. Eastbound Broadway can reach North Toole by traveling north on 6th Avenue to Pennington, then east to Toole.
- The sidewalk the north side of Broadway, between S. Toole and Barraza-Aviation Parkway,will be closed through the end of the year.
- Parking is available at the Pennington Street Garage. The entrance to the garage is located on Scott Avenue, just north of Congress Street.
