EXPANDED ROUTE AND HOURS FOR TICET REDLINE SHUTTLE This is a continuing series of construction alerts that will be issued throughout the construction of the 4th Avenue Underpass Improvement Project. These alerts will announce construction, detour and closure information as it affects traffic. Motorists are asked to obey all posted speed limit signs within the construction area and be alert for construction crews and personnel working in the area. Beginning at 10 a.m., on Monday, July 23, 2007, the hours and route for the Redline TICET shuttle will be increased to provide service between the University of Arizona, Fourth Avenue Merchants District, Downtown, and the Ronstadt Transit Center during the Fourth Avenue Underpass improvement project. The Redline shuttle, which will travel in front of over 100 retail and entertainment establishments, will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday (See attached flyer). Crews from Sundt Construction Inc. are continuing work on sidewalk improvements and streetlight installation along Eighth Street between Fourth and Sixth Avenues. The improvements along Eighth Street will allow pedestrians a safe alternative to walk between downtown and the Fourth Avenue Merchants District while the underpass is under construction. The Eighth Street improvements are scheduled to be complete by 6 a.m., on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, weather permitting. When the Eighth Street improvements are complete, pedestrian travel through the Fourth Avenue Underpass will be prohibited. The underpass has been closed to vehicular traffic since June 25, 2007.
The cost of the underpass improvement project is $26 million. The new underpass will feature new vehicular travel lanes that will accommodate streetcar traffic, bicycle lanes and lighted pedestrian walkways. The project is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2008.
