Date: February 19, 2008

UTILITY WORK TO RESTRICT TRAVEL ON STONE AVENUE DOWNTOWN

Underground utility work for the construction of the future Justice Court/City Court complex on Stone Avenue at Council Street began on Monday February 11, 2008. This work, being conducted by a Pima County contractor, will restrict travel on southbound Stone Avenue between Council Street and Alameda Street.

The underground utility work on Stone Avenue has been extended and is expected to be complete by Friday, February 29, 2008. Travel restrictions will be in place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday. At least one lane of travel on southbound Stone Avenue will be maintained during the work. This work will also force the temporary closure of Council Street between Stone Avenue and Ash Alley between 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, February 29, 2008.

Following the work on Stone Avenue, the underground utility work will then begin on Alameda Street from Stone Avenue to Sixth Avenue. Information on the work hours and travel impacts will be available next week.

The traveling public can expect delays when driving, bicycling or walking in this work area. Business access will be maintained. For your safety, please observe all traffic control signage, message boards, and obey reduced speed limits. Watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.

The Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) keeps Tucson moving smoothly and safely. The Department’s nearly 400 employees oversee the maintenance and reconstruction of nearly 4,400 lane miles of streets and are responsible for hundreds of drainage structures, public art pieces, street lights and signs, and traffic signs and signals in Tucson. TDOT also operates the City’s transit services, Sun Tran and Van Tran.
