TRAFFIC ALERT Date: March 19, 2008 FIVE POINTS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT STONE AVENUE AND SIXTH AVENUE TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS FOR PAVING WORK Beginning Monday, March 24, 2008, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., crews will begin repaving travel lanes on Stone Avenue from 18th Street to Broadway Boulevard as part of the Five Points Improvement Project. This work as well as utility adjustments and striping will require various lane closures on Stone Avenue. On Wednesday, March 26, 2008, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., crews will begin repaving Sixth Avenue from 18th Street to Broadway Boulevard. This work will require various lane closures on Sixth Avenue. For the safety of the traveling public, these lane closures will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week to allow for continuous construction-related work. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or equipment malfunction. No parking is allowed between temporary no parking signage or at bagged metered parking spaces. The traveling public is encouraged to avoid both Stone Avenue and Sixth Avenue between 18th Street and Broadway Boulevard as the contractor works to complete this project. The Five Points, Stone Avenue/ Sixth Avenue/ 18th Street Improvement project began in November 2007. The project amenities include resurfacing both Sixth Avenue and Stone Avenue with rubberized asphalt, drainage improvements, and re-striping for two-way traffic between 18th Street and Broadway. The project is scheduled to be complete in May 2008. The traveling public can expect delays when driving or bicycling in this work area. Business and residential access will be maintained. For your safety, please observe all traffic control signage, message boards, and obey reduced speed limits. Watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone. The Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) keeps Tucson moving smoothly and safely. The Department’s nearly 400 employees oversee the maintenance and reconstruction of nearly 4,400 lane miles of streets and are responsible for hundreds of drainage structures, public art pieces, street lights and signs, and traffic signs and signals in Tucson. TDOT also operates the City’s transit services, Sun Tran and Van Tran. | ||
