TRAFFIC ALERT Date: April 21, 2008 FIVE POINTS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT TWO WAY TRAVEL CONVERSION BEGINS Beginning at 6 a.m., on Saturday, April 26, 2008, two-way travel will begin on Stone Avenue and on Sixth Avenue, between Broadway and 18th Street. This permanent two-way travel conversion is part of the Five Points Improvement Project that began in November 2007. The project consisted of resurfacing both Stone Avenue and Sixth Avenue, as well as a portion of residential streets adjacent to Stone and Sixth, new underground drainage at the Five Points intersection, new street lights and new sidewalks. On Tuesday, April 22, 2008, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., work crews will begin restriping Stone Avenue and Sixth Avenue for the two-way conversion. Despite temporary striping being applied on Stone Avenue and on Sixth Avenue, one-way travel will remain in place until 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2008. At that time both streets will be converted to handle both northbound and southbound travel. For the safety of the traveling public, Tucson Police officers will be on site to monitor the two-way conversion of traffic. The Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) keeps Tucson moving smoothly and safely. The Department’s nearly 400 employees oversee the maintenance and reconstruction of nearly 4,400 lane miles of streets and are responsible for hundreds of drainage structures, public art pieces, street lights and signs, and traffic signs and signals in Tucson. TDOT also operates the City’s transit services, Sun Tran and Van Tran. | ||
