FIVE POINTS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT SIXTH AVENUE AND STONE AVENUE TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS FOR MILLING WORK AND TREE TRIMMING

Beginning on Monday, March 10, 2008, crews will begin milling (removing) asphalt on Sixth Avenue between 18th Street and Broadway as part of the Five Points Improvement Project. Crews will be working Monday through Thursday, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This work, as well as trench-patching work, paving, utility adjustments and striping will require lane closures on Sixth Avenue for approximately five weeks. The three one-way, northbound travel lanes will be reduced to one travel lane throughout the work zone. For the safety of the traveling public, these lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or equipment malfunction.

On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, various sections of Stone Avenue between 18th Street and Broadway will be reduced to one center travel lane to allow crews to trim overhanging tree branches in preparation for milling and paving operations to begin later in the month. This work is expected to take one day to complete. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Five Points, Stone Avenue/ Sixth Avenue/ 18th Street Improvement project began in November 2007. The project amenities include resurfacing both Sixth Avenue and Stone Avenue, drainage improvements, and re-striping for two-way traffic between 18th Street and Broadway. The project is scheduled to be complete in May 2008.

The traveling public can expect delays when driving or bicycling in this work area. Business and residential access will be maintained. For your safety, please observe all traffic control signage, message boards, and obey reduced speed limits. Watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work zone.

The Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) keeps Tucson moving smoothly and safely.
